Tuesday’s excellent article on skilled migration in the West Australian shows the number of business migrants being admitted to Australia is disproportionately low compared to the numbers of family reunion and skilled migration. Whilst we would prefer not to comment about refugee migration (a hot topic), we do observe that only six per cent of the 190,000 migrants to Australia this year are “Business Migrants”.
Given that three of the key stated goals and criteria for our migration programme as set out by the government are;
1. To build the economy
2. Support the labour market and
3. Shape society.
I believe bringing in people with entrepreneurial spirit, their own risk capital and a burning desire to be successful in business has be a big plus in achieving all the goals and aspirations outlined above. Certainly it has been our experience in business broking that migrant business buyers have been very successful in creating jobs for others and in expanding our state’s productivity.
